Does COVID-19 affect your pet?
What is COVID-19?
COVID-19 is a
disease caused by Coronaviruses, that shows the symptoms like fever, running
nose sore throat, etc.
COVID-19 shows mild
symptoms and becomes severe if left untreated.
Now the question is
whether it is true that COVID-19 indeed affects your pets?
Coronaviruses are
commonly present in all species of domestic, wild, reptiles, and pet animals.
It is a highly contagious and dreaded disease that can transmit from animals
to humans and vice-versa. Hence, it is yes.
According to some of
the sources, the coronaviruses got transmitted from snakes to humans. Some say
that bats are the reservoir hosts for these viruses.
The health officials
and scientists are researching to find out from which animal source COVID-19
began in China, which has become an outburst across the globe.
What are some of the pets that COVID-19 affect?
As per the World Health Organization reports, the COVID-19 spreads from one human to
another through the nasal, oral, pathway, and even direct contact. Though WHO
claims there is no evidence that COV-19 can affect the pets, some of them
have been infected with COVID-19, though in small numbers. The viruses affect
some of the pets like:
·
Dogs – Though there has not been any significant
evidence for dogs getting infected with COVID-19, a recent study in Hong Kong
has reported two positive cases. However, they did not show any symptoms.
However, if the master is carrying that virus, there are chances to
get affected by this pandemic.
·
Cats – The research also says that cats may be
prone to COVID-19 and can pass the virus to other cats. However, if they get
infected, it wouldn’t be a surprise for the scientists or veterinarians. According
to the Chinese study, cats can transmit the virus to one or more cats through
respiratory droplets.
· According to advanced research, even
ferrets have the vulnerability to SARS-CoV-2 or COVID-19 and fall ill. If you
are a ferret owner with COVID-19 disease, your pet will get infected with the
dreaded virus. In such cases, you need to have a healthy person take care of
the ferret and wash your hands before and after contact.
·
Tigers – Though the tiger is not a household pet,
it falls under the cat species. We call them big cats. According to the
analysis, tigers are equally susceptible to COVID-19. Many lions & tigers
showed respiratory illness.
The veterinary test
service examines your pets. However, testing the animals for COVID-19 is not significant.
Conclusion:
To stay protected
from COVID-19, you need to maintain hygiene for yourself
& your pets' well-being.
